# Board Governance: Balancing Risk and Opportunity

Deloitte (Aug 12, 2025) "Board Governance: Balancing Risk and Opportunity" argues boards demonstrating an ability to differentiate fundamental macroeconomic shifts from transient fluctuations gain a strategic advantage, using economic patterns, regulatory impact, customer behaviour and emerging technologies as perspectives. Short-term 2025 priorities: geopolitical and economic volatility (55%), security and cybersecurity (50%), rapid technological advancement and digital disruption (42%). Longer-term, technology jumps to top concern (42%→52%), human capital moves to second, and geopolitical/economic concern falls to third. 48% of directors say time spent on strategy and scenario planning increased "somewhat" in 2025 and 28% "significantly." Pointed for SEA mid-market boards retrofitting committee charters.
