# Capturing Maximum Value During a Post-Merger Integration

Boston Consulting Group post-merger integration practice, led globally by Chris Barrett, sets out a structured framework for capturing maximum value during a PMI. The methodology comprises three phases — set direction, capture value, build the organisation — and 12 imperatives for success. The Set Up phase launches the Integration Management Office (IMO), defines program governance, gathers financial/headcount/culture baselines, sets the combined entity's top-level operating model and launches communications. Design and Plan prepares Day 1, details synergy paths and the target operating model, defines change-management and cultural integration. Implement executes — tracking milestones and synergy capture while supporting stakeholders. In the past five years BCG supported more than 550 M&A deals, generating an average of 9% more value than typical deals. Direct frame for SEA mid-market boards approving large integrations.
