# Leading for Tomorrow: Board Effectiveness and Sustainability in Emerging Markets

Boston Consulting Group, Heidrick & Struggles and INSEAD joint 2024 report "Leading for Tomorrow: Board Effectiveness and Sustainability in Emerging Markets" surveys 444 directors and CEOs — 112 from emerging markets — plus regional roundtables. Key data: emerging-markets boards spend 29% of time on sustainability education versus the global 49% average, yet more than 60% of EM directors say their companies are making long-term investments in new sustainability technologies versus 48% of developed-market directors, and 16% of EM companies are pursuing GenAI-driven M&A versus 10% in developed markets. The report flags EM board homogeneity in profile, expertise, generation and mindset. Direct evidence base for SEA mid-market boards questioning their own composition.
