# The Better Together: Three Ways to Boost Board-CEO Collaboration

McKinsey (Sep 25, 2024) "Better together: Three ways to boost board-CEO collaboration" reports survey results from 913 respondents across regions, industries, sizes and board roles, fielded April 2-19, 2024. Headline: just one-third say their boards and CEOs collaborate very effectively. Top drivers of ineffective collaboration: lack of clarity on the agenda, unclear roles and responsibilities, and poor information sharing. The three ways to boost collaboration: establish efficient and effective board processes; communicate more often and openly with the CEO; foster a strong board culture. Boards that communicate better are better informed, can align as a group, and respond to crises faster. Relevant for SEA mid-market boards where chair-CEO ritual is informal.
