# These 2 Internal Biases Cause Us to Fall for Misinformation

World Economic Forum (Apr 12, 2024) "These 2 internal biases cause us to fall for misinformation", adapted from the 2024 Penguin Random House book "May Contain Lies", identifies two cognitive traps: confirmation bias, which is hard to shake — a neuroscience study using functional MRI showed that countering students' political positions triggered amygdala activity that did not arise when non-political claims were challenged — and black-and-white thinking, where the world is viewed in binary good/bad terms with no shades of grey.
