2025 UK Spencer Stuart Board Index, five, ten and fifteen year trends

The 30th edition, published December 2025, a census of disclosed governance practice in the largest 150 companies in the FTSE rankings by market value at 30 April 2025. The share of boards running an externally facilitated evaluation was 39 per cent in 2025 against 46 per cent in 2020, 43 per cent in 2015 and 13 per cent in 2010, a fifteen-year tripling followed by a five-year retreat. Over the same period the share of boards with more than three committees rose from 43 per cent to 69 per cent while the average number of board meetings fell from 8 to 7.5 and average board size was flat at 10.3.
