Briefing Paper: Extracts of Legal White Paper, Succession Planning for GCC Family Businesses, The Future is Now

Dated April 2015, produced with Al Tamimi and Co, stating from Family Business Council-Gulf Analysis 2015 that "roughly 80% of GCC family businesses are in the critical transition stage of first to second or second to third generation". It records that protocols and constitutions were "voluntary agreements, not enforceable in GCC jurisdictions and easily challenged by family members", that outside the DIFC an LLC in the GCC could not issue non-voting preferred shares because votes must equal shares, that the UAE LLC partner ceiling stood at 50, and that only Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE offered family trust mechanisms. It closes by recording that a draft family business law had been presented to the Government of Dubai.
