Bringing True Strategic Foresight Back to Business
Harvard Business Review (Jan 12, 2024) by Amy Webb, quantitative futurist and CEO of Future Today Institute and NYU Stern professor of strategic foresight, argues that strategy and foresight were once the same discipline and must be reunited. She defines true strategic foresight as a disciplined and systematic approach to identifying where to play, how to win in the future, and how to ensure organizational resiliency in the face of unforeseen disruption. Modern updates to those combined disciplines, she argues, sharpen leaders' vision for the future and propel team performance. Useful framing for SEA mid-market boards still treating annual plan reviews as foresight.
