Global family business report 2025: Strategic growth through values and purpose
Published March 2025 on a global survey of 2,683 family business CEOs conducted in the second half of 2023, available in 18 languages across 80 countries and territories, with an average firm age of 42 years, supplemented by regional roundtables with 21 leaders. Sixty-one per cent of the global sample has a formal board against 67 per cent of the 908 respondents (32 per cent) classified as high performing, and the regional spread runs Middle East and Africa 89 per cent, Europe 62 per cent, Asia and Oceania 58 per cent, the Americas 54 per cent. The report states that board composition of high performers "were not markedly different" from the global sample on size, number of family members and inclusion of non-family members, with average board seats of 5.35 against 5.3 and family members 3.49 against 3.5.
