KPMG and INSEAD Launch Global AI Board Governance Principles as AI Reshapes Board Oversight
KPMG International and the INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre (Apr 14, 2026) launched joint AI Governance Principles for Boards to foster responsible governance of AI at board level. Supporting data: the latest KPMG Global AI Pulse Survey shows nearly three-quarters of boards are perceived to have only moderate or limited AI expertise. The Principles are organised around five themes: Strategic Oversight for long-term value creation in uncharted territory favouring speed and experimentation; Active Technology and Security Oversight balancing technology sovereignty, cyber, data and AI security with the agility and scale of partnering or outsourcing; Workforce Transformation and Human Accountability preserving human judgement; Building Trustworthy AI aligned to values and regulation; and the Work of the Board, considering how AI affects board oversight and governance practices.
