PwC's 2025 Board Effectiveness Survey Reveals Top Issues for C-Suites

PwC (Dec 1, 2024) "2025 Board Effectiveness Survey" — a C-suite perspective on boards — reveals only 32% of executives believe their boards have the right mix of skills and expertise. International business and AI emerged as the top priorities for desired board expertise. 93% of executives indicate at least one director should be replaced and 78% want two or more replaced — often long-tenure directors in favour of AI or cyber skills. The most-cited misalignment: nearly half of executives consider international business and AI as major risk areas, while only 9% and 10% of directors respectively agree, signalling boards may struggle to provide effective oversight without recalibrating priorities. Direct read-out for SEA mid-market boards on the executive-director gap.
