The rising complexity of board directorship
McKinsey (Mar 4, 2024) "Inside the Strategy Room" podcast/article "The rising complexity of board directorship" features Steven Sterin and Karen McLoughlin (both experienced board directors) and Frithjof Lund, global leader of McKinsey's Board Services. They argue being a board director is more complex than ever as new topics — geopolitics, generative AI, digitisation, sustainability — are additive rather than substitutive to historical board responsibilities. Boards are now expected to engage more deeply on strategy, investments, M&A, performance management, risk, talent and the organisation. Engagement time required has gone up dramatically. Useful sizing for SEA mid-market boards rebuilding their committee structures.
